Speaker optimistic about Women’s Bill
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has expressed the hope that the Women’s Reservation Bill will get Parliament’s nod during his tenure as chairman of the Lower House.
Rs. 200 cr. for road works in backward taluks
Bangalore: The Karnataka government has released Rs. 200 crore as special grant for road development works in 114 backward taluks, according to Minister for Public Works C.M. Udasi. He told presspersons on Friday that the special grant would be spent only for road works in the backward taluks as roads were bad there.
CAMPUS NOTES
Afsal-ul-Ulama results: The results of the third year BA Afsal-ul-Ulama supplementary examinations held in September have been published. The distribution of mark lists will begin from the examination centres on June 19. The results have also been posted on the university web site. The last date to submit applications for revaluation and scrutiny of answer scripts is June 23.
Steps taken to prevent monsoon calamities

KALPETTA: The district authorities have taken precautionary measures to tackle monsoon-induced natural calamities in the hilly Wayanad district. Shelters have been identified for victims of floods and landslips who had to be evacuated from crisis-affected areas last year.

SBT urged to fill vacancies
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State secretary of the AITUC Kanam Rajendran has asked the management of the State Bank of Travancore (SBT) to take immediate steps to fill the over 2,500 vacancies in the bank.
